Aesthestics like cottagecore, farmhouse, and coastal grandmother had a hold on 2022. Now people are ready to embrace bold color, statement design and personality in their homes. Here are some of the 2023 trends interior designers have predicted will be in this year:
Bolder, saturated color: Green and earthy tones continue to be popular, but in more rich and vibrant hues. Added to the palette are eggplant, mustard and ultramarine blue.
Vintage and antique decor: People are mixing their new furniture and decor with vintage and antique pieces. Part of the charm is there are no supply chain issues since these items are readily available at thrift and antique stores. These timeless pieces have proved to smoothly transition from coastal grandmother and farmhouse to boho and transitional design. There’s no better way to find authentic traditional items than at thrift stores.
Personality-filled accessories: Out are the kitschy signs with sayings and in are accessories that reflect the homeowner's personality and memories. Curate with an eye towards minimalism when adding your family heirlooms, travel souvenirs, and thrift finds to your design.
Layers and textures: Adding layers and textures add visual interest and dimension. Trendy textures for pillows, couches, linens and soft goods include boucle, velvet, mohair, wool, sherpa and loose or heavy weave materials. For even more visual interest, Texture on walls with grasscloth, lime wash, or plaster is now more popular than ever.
Dark and moody: Whether it is a bathroom, office, or den using a color scheme with dark and moody tones invoke peace and calm. Dark charcoal, black, and deep navy are popular choices.
Natural Elements: Bringing in the calming effect of natural elements in the house continues to be on trend, such as, live edged tables, plant-filled rooms, and the use of bamboo, cork, sisal, stone and wood materials.
Sustainability: Along the incorporation of nature in design, sustainability is a strong trend. Environmentally friendly paint, carpet, and other materials and purchasing items that have been upcycled, recycled or not part of "fast fashion."
Whichever of these trends most resonates with you, I encourage you to make it your own and infuse your personality in your home. Enjoy!
